Dominance Hierarchies

The answers to the biggest questions in life are paradoxes. The example I like best is the question regarding one own’s significance in the universe.

A mere person on this planet is just one of 6 or 7 billion of the same species, on a planet full of massive amount of life, in which the planet is only one of nine (Pluto is a planet in my book dammit) in our solar system. There are many solar systems in our Milky Way galaxy, and there are infinite galaxies in a universe that is currently expanding.

Makes you seem insignificant huh?

Well what if someone asked me to describe you. I’d have to tell them what you looked like in some detail, then explain that you were a human being, a species from a planet called Earth. This Earth place is in a solar system, the solar system is in the Milky Way galaxy. There are infinite galaxies.

To describe you properly I need to invoke the whole universe.

Paradox.

I’ve gone down the stoic philosophy route of recent years. This is based on a foundation of non attachment and awareness. I believe this is also a corner stone of the Christian Faith - love God above all else. So, although I sometimes get swept up in it, ideally I try/hold values to not give a sh1t about rank battles and jockeying for position and doing things because I can then be in charge.

I’d rather live my life doing what i enjoy. I’d rather be honest, humble, generous, write, be empathetic, and have a sense of humour about myself.

Through avoiding the type-a personality route to try and ‘win’ at being a professional in a organisation, I’ve pushed my time into other pursuits. These other pursuits - creativity, socialising, health, searching for wisdom/reading have led to my ascension in a bunch of other dominance hierarchies. It’s all had compounding/interlocking effects to so I inherently have gone up the boring work dominance hierarchy’s as well.

Then all the woman come out. The theory here is that woman represent Gaia ie Earth. When man is slaying dragons and achieving (ie showing some fitness) then that is attractive to Earth.

This wasn’t happening so much when I was young - and was trying.

Don’t try - succeed (maybe)

Do try - success comes harder (maybe)

So as I write this I become aware that it is awareness that is key. Live in the moment and be aware.
