Be Selfish
The nice people are being picked off. The over generous, the people who can't say no. Those who like order and completeness, and therefore will go into the red to ensure things are in order. One by one, down they go.
It is sad to watch. They are losing their health, both physical and mental. You can push yourself and get away with it in your early adult years, but even then habits form. Habits which are hard to break. If the 'please external people' practice doesn't change then by mid thirties the trend is fast going down down down. It isn't linear either. It is exponential.
I learnt from a friend at work today that she is pre diabetic. She has other health issues associated with the condition. It's obvious that she has not been looking after herself, which has been evident for a while. She's also had some trauma in her life which hasn't helped the situation. Really smart lass. A 'pleaser'.
Woman have it tough in today's workplace. I believe they are on average more emotional. More eager to please. Less like to have a 'take your job and shove it' type moment, even when they really should. Pressure needs to be released somehow. Ends up negatively impacting their health.
Lets refocus on the priorities . Health is number 1. The subset number 1 within health is energy. You can't f$%king do anything without energy. You can't f$%king do anything without your health.
"But I need to finish this report because I need this high paying stressful job because I need to pay off some debts because I have investments which are really smart and will make me money when I'm 50."
Guess what - f%^k money. The amount you need to actually get by isn't that much (weaponised marketing is the great Bain of today). Sure, at different times in life money can be more or less important. But by mid 30s, assuming you haven't massively screwed up, get by on less money and put your health first.
Scott Adams puts people into three categories.
1. Generous
2. Selfish
3. Parasites
You have to be number 2. Number 1 sounds fantastic, but number 1 is actually being stupid, because the long you are number 1 the sooner you end up as a number 3 parasite in society unable to work/contribute and clogging the health system.
Practical advice: Take tomorrow off. Call in sick. Mental health day. Then sit down and start creating systems. Throw out the 'I will lose five kg/lbs' bs and just create a system whereby there is no crap food in the house and you exercise at the same time each day. Start slow and build.
