Testing Testosterone #1

A new rabbit hole I've started to explore which is linked to the dominance hierarchies. What is the link between DHs and testosterone? I've been doing a fair bit of weight training for over a year now and I'd say I've bulked up a bit. I've shed some fat  ~10kg, probably more as that is the figure of weight on the scale I've lost, but I've added muscle. Testosterone is good for muscle growth - this much I know. I stopped drinking water from the tap and switched over to filtered water once I learnt this (who actually knows if it is true or not, but meh no harm no foul). I'm also 36 so naturally my testosterone levels are dropping off somewhat due to age. Not what they were when I was 20, but higher than when I'll be 44. Hopefully my healthy lifestyle is mitigating/slowing that decrease down, and there are things I can do to increase. Watched a podcast with Rogan and Andrew Huberman where they discuss testosterone optimisation. So apparently testosteron...

4%

Apparently the females swipe right only 4% of the time (swipe right for purposes of this post means is interested). The males swipe right like 65 - 70% of the time.  Guys go for looks. Girls go for status. That is a crazy thought though. In a recent JP podcast I listened to one of the guests mentioned that his friend, apparently an attractive high ranking male, received like 20,000 matches on Tinder. 20,000! As JP pointed out - that is ghengis khan level. It is a Pareto distribution - the top top receive a f$%king shit load, and the majority receive very little. What is going on though? Like what are these woman thinking? How is it healthy/in their interest to say only click on Ryan Renalds and Johnny Depps? The RR and JDs have huge numbers thrown at them, so they are probably going to devalue and likely wont be forming an intimate bond. Does being the 12th mistress of a JD really beat being the number one of some hard working electrician? Is it even good at all for RR and JD? Perha...

Free Guy

Free Guy Finally a move with a white male protagonist. Like the hero of the story, well there are sort of three, but two are white adult males. They weren’t swapped out for some brooding Alicia Keys circa 1999 actress. An actual male, a male of European heritage, in a new Disney movie, was given a role as the hero!  Welllllllll - sort of not really. Let’s break it down. Ryan Renalds played Guy - the video game NPC. The script was written deadpoolish so I can see why he was cast. He did a good job. But is his character a role model for young men? Is his character a demonstration of the masculine? I’d say no not really. Often in the movie he is referred to as being beautiful. He doesn’t really learn or develop anything - he just goes about doing what he’s told basically in order to win the affection of Millie- the female protagonist. If this was karate kid - Guy is the small child and Millie is Mr Miyagi. Except Guy is a b!tch and Millie is dressed hot, and full of masculine en...

The Why

The Why I write for my little boy, who is of German/Polish/English/Scottish heritage so he may have a protagonist, a hero, who he can aspire to emulate and learn from. There are old stories of value, but new stories need to be created for the now, in the context of today, looking to the future, so he can relate. I write to inspire, to stretch what is possible, to hit an emotional chord, to make life better. To explore. I write for my friends of European heritage. They are in the same age as me. They have struggles and tribulations in their life. There isn’t much current/in the culture of now that helps them deal with the messy and significant stuff of life. That which inspires, relaxes, makes them laugh, points to their value, teaches. I write for them. I write for myself. For the joy of it. For creativity’s sake. To remind myself what we are all capable of. Simon Sinek - Start with why

Dealing with Praise

Today I received a fair bit of praise in relation to work I've been doing. I choose to see it as a defensive element. Good I've got it under control so I don't have to deal with stuff. Still need to keep grinding though. Keep grinding. Success is temporary, failure isn't permanent. That is all.

Slowly Sinking

You're in a special boat that delivers food to islanders in a small section of the Pacific Ocean. The special boat has a small hole in the hull. The islanders won't accept food from a boat without this hole. The hole represents a continuing connection between the water in the ocean and the food on the boat. It appeases their gods. Water is seeping in. You have a bucket to bail out the water. The problem is the bucket is too small. There is a net increase of water in the boat.  You call out for support. There should be support. It is a person's designated role, the Bucketer, to provide a bucket big enough so the net rate is outflow.  You request the bigger bucket. They ignore you. You request again, several times, consistantly, over a year. They ignore you. You search amongst the material on the boat and find some metal. You hand it to the Bucketer. Perhaps with the additional resource they can finish the bucket. They take the material but, again, hand over nothing. Your arm...

Does Consistency Matter?

Life isn't consistent. Go from ages 0 to 2 to 8 to 16 to 25 to 45 to 60 to 80 and life looks completely different. Yet yesterday pretty much resembled today. Next week looks like it will mimic last week. Different views at different levels I guess. Fractals. Fractals Fractals Fractals. The Dominance Hierarchies theory has gotten my attention again (damn JP podcasts). Im not sure it is applicable at all levels. At the extremes - yes.  Low If a man is low IQ, highly neurotic, anxious and unreliable then he'll be at the bottom of probably whatever DH's he is in. What are those DHs? - Assuming he lives in a group home, the social loafer of the bunch. - Goes out and travels around town (jobs, social situations etc) so low on the general attractiveness/can wrestle a bear DH. - At some job he is probably on the bottom of the pecking order. Low status there, low pay etc. - Feeble at sports, dropped off teams etc. - Finds it hard to get people to commit to social relationships. So ...
